Successful Commissioning & Inauguration of Rangjung Mini Hydel Plant (2 x 1.1 MW)

Bhutan Automation & Engineering Limited is pleased to announce the successful commissioning and inauguration of the Rangjung Mini Hydel Plant (2 x 1.1 MW) on 4th August 2026. This achievement forms part of a broader upgradation project covering both the Gidakom and Rangjung Mini Hydel plants, delivered by BHUTAN AUTOMATION to the Operation and Maintenance Services Centre (O&MSC), DGPC. Technical scope of the work covered: * SICAM A8000 controllers deployed for the Unit Control and Common Control systems, with governor control logic developed and implemented within the A8000 platform * HIPASE-PS protection relays for generator protection * OPM Toolbox II and SCALA 250 for the SCADA screens and Operator Workstation * Existing excitation system retained and integrated into the upgraded control architecture The commissioning process presented several technical challenges, which were successfully resolved through the dedication of the on-site team and valuable support from the custodian plant, Kurichu Hydropower Plant. BHUTAN AUTOMATION extends its sincere gratitude to the Operation and Maintenance Services Centre (O&MSC), DGPC, for their continued trust and partnership on this project. Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd Holds Annual Rimdro on 14th April 2026

Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd conducted its annual Rimdro ceremony on April 14, 2026, led by Kenpo Ugyen Lhendup. The ritual was held at the company premises, with employees participating in prayers for peace, protection, and prosperity. The event was attended by guests from Chhukha RBA, Chukha Hydro Plant, THP dam, Wangchu Middle Secondary School, and Chukha Hospital, reflecting strong community and spiritual unity. Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd Celebrates Viswakarma Puja

Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd observed Viswakarma Puja today with devotion and enthusiasm, honoring Lord Viswakarma, the divine architect and patron of craftsmanship. The ceremony began with traditional prayers and rituals, where employees offered flowers, incense, and sought blessings for overall prosperity, safety, and success in all engineering endeavors. Company tools, machinery, and equipment were also worshipped, reflecting the belief that well-maintained instruments are vital to innovation and progress. The event brought together staff and management in a spirit of unity, reinforcing values of creativity, precision, and dedication. The celebration concluded with refreshments, leaving everyone inspired to continue their work with renewed energy and commitment.

Chukha Hydropower Plant Governing & Excitation System Upgradation Project

The project commenced with the upgrading work on the first unit started in January 2024, which was and successfully commissioned in July 2024. The work on the fourth and final unit began in April 2025 and was commissioned today. The scope of work involved retrofitting the existing primitive system with a state-of-the-art digital governor based on the HIPASE-T controller (in all the 4 units) and a modern excitation system utilizing the HIPASE-E controller (in 1 selected unit as a start-up). Additionally, the hydraulic system for all the units were upgraded with a new valve table assembly, air-oil vessel, and OPU to enhance overall performance and reliability. The upgraded system offers significant value enhancements in both operational efficiency and maintenance. It is now easier to operate and requires less effort to maintain, resulting in improved reliability and reduced downtime. The system is additionally equipped with a mini SCADA, including two operator workstations, allowing remote operation and monitoring of the upgraded system. This feature provides added value for operators and enhances overall system reliability.

Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd successfully conducted its annual Rimdro ceremony for the year 2025 on the 22nd of April. The sacred ritual was presided over by Kenpo Ugyen Lhendup, who led the prayers and spiritual offerings to invoke blessings for a prosperous and harmonious year ahead. The Rimdro, an important religious event in Bhutanese culture, was held at the company's premises and was attended by all employees of BHUTAN AUTOMATION. Staff members actively participated in the prayers and rituals, seeking protection, peace, and well-being for themselves, their families, and the organization. The event also saw the presence of special guests from the Chukha Hydro Plant, Wangchu Middle Secondary School, and Chukha Hospital. Their participation added further significance to the ceremony, reflecting a strong sense of community and spiritual unity among local institutions. New CEO Appointed at Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd

On March 25, 2025, the Board of Directors at Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd. announced the appointment of Mr. Deepen Sharma as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. Mr. Sharma, who previously served as the head of CoEACaP, Hydropower R&D Centre at DGPC, took on this prestigious role with immediate effect. On April 3, 2025, the family of Bhutan Automation welcomed Mr. Sharma to the company’s office, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the organization. During the ceremony, the officiating CEO, Mr. Dorji Samdrup, officially handed over all CEO responsibilities to Mr. Sharma, expressing his confidence in the new leadership. The team at Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd. is hopeful and excited about the future under Mr. Sharma's guidance, wishing him the best as he leads the company towards new achievements and growth.

Successful Commissioning of Unit III of PHPA-II

Bhutan Automation & Engineering Ltd. has successfully delivered the Computerized Control System, Protection System, and related equipment as part of the EM Package EM-06, ensuring smooth automation and protection for the project. With this achievement, the team has now commissioned three generating units, Feeders 5 & 6, a shunt reactor, and the XLPE protection system. This milestone is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our team and partners, who continue to drive innovation and reliability in Bhutan’s energy sector.
