BHUTAN AUTOMATION specializes in manufacturing and implementation of state-of-the-art automation systems and other secondary equipment for industrial applications. It is a Joint Venture Company of Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC), Bhutan and Andritz Hydro Private Limited (AHPL), India. BHUTAN AUTOMATION is registered under the Companies Act of Bhutan, 2016 and ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 & ISO 45001:2018 certified.

Who are we ?

At BHUTAN AUTOMATION, we strive to lead the industry by delivering lasting automation and control solutions for evolving energy systems. Our comprehensive services encompass design, engineering, manufacturing, implementation, and ongoing support, all underpinned by our core values of integrity, outstanding service, technological innovation, quality assurance, and environmental responsibility.

DGPC, a subsidiary of Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), aims to efficiently manage renewable energy projects, especially hydropower, to enhance Bhutan's wealth sustainably. It owns and operates four hydropower plants (BHP, CHP, KHP, THP), and invests in Nikachhu and Khorlochhu projects. Additionally, it provides consultancy services and operates an ISO-certified hydropower service center, ensuring sustainable energy solutions and economic growth.

AHPL (India), a subsidiary of Andritz Hydro GmbH (Austria), is a key player in India's hydropower sector, supplying equipment and services across Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Upholding ISO quality standards, AHPL benefits from Andritz Hydro's 120 years of global expertise in electromechanical systems, providing equipment generating 420,000 MW. AHPL collaborates with BHUTAN AUTOMATION, leveraging extensive experience and resources worldwide.

Chhewang Rinzin, with a Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, USA, is the first Managing Director of Druk Green Power Corporation Limited, Bhutan's public sector generation utility. He previously led Bhutan Power Corporation Limited. With 31 years in the electricity sector, he’s been instrumental in its growth.

Rinzin was awarded the title of Dasho and the Order of Druk Khorlo by the King of Bhutan. He also received the India Power Award in 2012. He has served as Chairperson of Bhutan’s Second Pay Commission and as a member of the Interim Governments.

Dr. Josef M Ullmer

Andritz Hydro

Josef began his career at Elin Energie Union AG, focusing on sales and implementation of power plants, substations, and hydropower projects. After key roles at Andritz Hydro, he is now the Regional Executive for Asia and Oceania and President Director for Indonesia. He manages a team of 2,500 employees, generating €450 million in annual sales.

Josef has led initiatives such as regionalization, restructuring field services, and standardizing generators, significantly boosting risk management and profitability at Andritz Hydro. During the 1997–2002 Asian crisis, he streamlined VATECH Asia’s operations, reducing subsidiaries from 68 to 22, increasing order intake and profitability.

Dr. Thomas Harbort
NON-INDEPENDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Andritz Hydro

Thomas Harbort has been the Vice President of Global Automation at Andritz HYDRO since 2007. With a PhD from the University of Stuttgart, he leads the development of automation products to meet the evolving needs of cyber-physical hydropower systems.

Previously, he held various roles at VA TECH SAT/Sulzer Hydro and participated in an expert exchange program in Zurich. Dr. Harbort has also served as Convenor of IEC TC4 Working Group 14 for turbine governor and control systems.

Tandin Tshewang is the Chief Executive Officer of Bhutan Automation & Engineering Limited. He has a master’s degree in Electrical Power Engineering from Edith Cowan University in Perth (Western Australia).

Prior to joining BHUTAN AUTOMATION in 2018, he has worked at the Hydropower Research and Development Centre and Tala Hydropower Plant, both under Druk Green Power Corporation.
